Hey all,

I've been considering adding pressurised CO2 to one of my tanks. I had a talk with one of the local gas suppliers who could lease me a pub bottle and refill it, but he said it would be illegal for him to refill a CO2 bottle he didn't own. Is that right, or was he just wanting my rental money? I was just wondered if this was part of why people use fire extinguishers, because you replace them rather than get them refilled. I’m now trying to figure out what people do when they've bought a TMC or Aquamedic set with a bottle, do some of the LFS down south refill them?

Unless you know how playing with pressurised gases is dangerous. In this day and age of were there is a blame there is a claim culture I do not blame the chap. Most bottles filled with Gases usually charge them in Liquid form how they do it with C02 I do not know.

Your local branch of BOC (British Oxygen Company) can fill your cylinder but I bet they would be fussy about the cylinder and may refuse to fill anything but there own cylinders which will cost.

I'm unsure about the laws on C02 and refilling, I'm not sure he's right about the 'because he doesn't own it' part ?

I use a FE, bought it from my man at the LFS for £15, he refills it for £9.50 every few months. I did use the 500g JBL bottles, they were also filled up by the LFS. You can get refills from any MA, but like i say I'm not sure about the legalities of this.

Yeh, I don't blame him either. I wanted to plan ahead and have a stable place to get more co2 from when the cylinder ran out, and before spending that much on a regulator. I think my folks would have a fit, to be honest, if they dropped in past my flat and saw a duck-taped up FE in my room. I'll give supercoley's yeast set-up a go, till I've found out a bit more. It's a shame there isn't even a paint ball place close to mine to go down that route.
