I emailed Pets at home and told them about the fishless cycle and the fact that no fish are at risk if it done...

as a result they are thinking about changing their advice to mine!!!

Oh ya!

But they are only thinking though... i think they will say No because of loss of profit from dead fish...

I think we should all rally to have our individual LFSs raise filter media with cycled bacteria to sell to new fish owners when they buy their new setup. At least their fish would have a fighting chance.

i dont know about buying cycled media, sounds good, but in practice im not so sure.

say i go down the shop, buy a new filter and ask for some cycled media. firstly, hes got to have all the right media i want for my new 5 tray external filter. i want the right sponges, the right biomedia options. then, the point of having cycled media is so you can pretty much fully stock your tank straight away. if you dont, the bacteria will die down, which sort of isnt the point of buying loads of cycled media to fill my new filter with. this means im trusting the LFS that the media is all properly cycled, and if it isnt, thats a serious threat to all the fish in my tank.

if you want to do a job properly, do it yourself.

Its a nice idea but after speaking to staff in that chain they have all said that anything that is put forward with a suggestion in regards to fish is given the same response. Even when the staff have suggested something nothing is done.

That would be a very good idea
