OK I mis posted this in tropical chat. - Mods can you delete in Tropical Chat. Thanks

So, got a lovely piece of redmoor wood from AE late last week. It has now been soaking for nigh on 3 days and refuses to sink.. Anyone any experience with this wood? how long should it take? Or do have to weigh ot down?

Seem to remember soaking mine for about 2 weeks before it eventually sunk.

2 weeks!!!! holy mackral. best I polish up my patience skills. Not had much since cycling the tank initially. Oh well. live and learn....??? If I boil it would this speed things up?

Pouring boiling water over the wood may help, then soak it in hot water from the tap. Otherwise patience is the only way :)

I'm curious what is redmoor wood?
any chance of a pic?
I could update the pinned wood topic if i knew more about this wood.

AquaEssentials have various wood and stones (dragon, leopard etc.) that you might find interesting enough to add to your pinned topics. I am sure Richard will be able to give you more details if you mail him.

Dave.

EDIT: forgot to add Clossie, what I do is weigh the wood down with lead initially, making sure the lead is easily accessible for removal when the wood is soaked.

I bought a couple of pieces for my tank but couldn't fit both in. When I put the large piece in, I had to lodge it in between the substrate and the glass, so I don't know how long it took to sink. I did pour boiling water over it etc. etc. It's great wood if you're after that twisted branch look. I didn't get any tanning but did get some white slime coming from it but I just wiped it off and it didn't come back and was apparently harmless.

I luckily found a piece in one of my LFS. Only £9.99 :D
I'll probably try wedge it in and tie rocks to it, aswell as soaking it in boiling water ofcourse.

Its losing some of its boyancy, but it would take quite a chunk of rock to weigh it down..
Fish appear to like swimming in and out of its roots however. Good buy from AE and they matched me up to a perfect piece of wood as I have an awkward tank size which meant I left a note on the purchase and they sourced the best shape for me. Thumbs up for AE. :good:
