Personally, I would go with tank 3, with one big change, black substrate!

Possibly some taller plants on the right hand side as well!

What would you keep in there? <-- Sorry just remembered what topic we are in! *oops*

D.

As you probably guessed number 3 is the current (done yesterday)

1) was first attempt and trying to give him the paddy field look. It looked better as it grew.

2) changed as I thought he was getting bored

3) got this tree stump (resin) off eBay for a fiver collected. It has several holes from top to bottom which already have been explored to the max! Tied a load of java fern to it so that will improve in time.

In fact just took this snap! Pretty cool, eh!

I have the same tank as you. I like the last one the best.... maybe some bogwood with moss and plants on it would look really nice

Doresy -
they're all nice, (and personally I think the first one would have been better received with the black background you used later - the blue being too bright and distracting - because it wasn't a bad set-up at all) but #3 is absolutely gorgeous.
It looks very Japanese, somehow - just lovely.
Beautiful angles/balance, everything.
And I love the pic of the little guy peering out from his cubbyhole in the stump!
That'd make such a great poster or screen saver - although actually not a screen-saver, because you'd keep putting off getting online and losing it.
Put a big grin on my face, no mean feat after yet another up-all-night until 7 AM thing.
Thanks for sharing the pics - and making my night.
I'm still hoping to see some good shots of the tank beside that, as well - granted my memory is still packed somewhere from the last move, but I really don't recall seeing any, just wanting to, hint???

set up 3 is lovely, only thing I do is add a few more live plants along the left wall where the heater is.

Thank you all for your kind comments.

I too like the stump and I am sure he does to as he has been playing all day since it's been in. I like the way it hides the pump too.

As for the plants I have left a bit of growing room although I may get something different to go on the left next week.

As for the 850 next door it's a bit of an embarassment really. Aside the exceptional Cory collection there is nothing at all special in it due to being at an aquatic crossroad in my life.

One minute I am thinking specemin tank (Puffer maybe) then there is a Malawi set-up although I don't really think my upstairs study could take the weight of a long tank and all that ocean rock! Now I am also thinking reef

Oh well, the jury is still out
