how do you tell if a red wag platy is a female because i have a male right now and i got another red wag and the fins are different sizes and the color of the fish are different might have some babys soon if it is a female

if the anal fin is a stick it's a male, if it's a fan, it's a female... You can tell Mollys apart like this too...

Edit--> Wait a minute, how do you know you have a male if you don't know how to sex them?

Had wagtails and believe me there will be plenty of babies

the pictures that wilder just gave me and petsmart said assorted males and petco said nothing and the female is from petco

Lfs sold my hubby some wagtails was mad when he got home as I said there were some females with them.

what do platys like so they will breed?

live foods, warm temps,clean water, but that isn't necessary, females store sperm so she can be pregnant sveral times in a row without a male around. She's probably already pregnant. Could you post a pic up? And they should be at a ratio of 1 male to 2 females so that the male doesn't harass the female all the time (especially when she's trying to give birth )

the pic is a little blurry, but she doesn't look extremely pregnant, I'd say you're looking at 3 more weeks minimum.
