I would split them and keep the male is thats the one you like. They will most likely become very aggressive otherwise, even with the larger fish.

Yes, during breeding, Jewels have no regard for fish size and will go after anything in the tank. If you wish them to breed, I would have them in a separate tank (no smaller than a 3ft) so they can have some alone time.

Excellent, thank again guys... very helpfull think I will re-home the female. Sorry for the annoying questions, but if I was to get an other male, would they just fight or could they get along? It's a big enough tank, 2ft tall 2+1/2ft deep corner tank.

I would just stick with you current male. It's not worth the hassle if they don't get along.
