Hi i bought a 28 litre aquarium last summer and got 3 red eyed puffers (3 recommened by shop) later discoverd that this was a mistake as the male puffer attacked the other female untill i had to find a friend to take it in. the two have now settled and seem very happy now, but the tank has the usaly bit of algea growing. it is out of direct sunlight and has 4 or 5 plants in.
Would i be able to get a cleaner fish for the tank, without them pecking it to death. ano that they are feroshus feeders as i feed them waxworms now and then as treats (i have reptiles). and i dont want to get a fish so it can die.

Help would be apreciated

From everything Ive read and it is just read as I have no experience of these fish, they cannot be housed with other species, so I would assume that putting in anything else will result in the new inhabitants death.

I know with dwarf puffers they can be housed ottos, but only if they are introduced to the tank at the same time, you cant add ottos once the DP's are established in the tank as they will kill them.

Not much help to you I know.

Have you tried cutting back on the sunlight in some way to help reduce the algae?

i dont know much aout puffers but from having a look there are 3 types of red eye puffer it depends on which one you have, do you know the scienific name ?? have a look HERE seems there may be some useful info for you.
