I already have 1 medium sized in a 55 tank with 3 Oscars. But I wanted a tank dedicated for red bellies Piranha. Would a 55 gal and up be a good start? I want to have at least 5-6 in a tank. Any suggestions?

Hi, i keep red belly piranhas, i have 6 in a 100g however i will probably have to get rid of a couple when they get bigger. The rule per fish is 20g per fish, so if you want 5-6 you will need at least a 4x2x2 to house them for life.

Also, you SHOULD NOT keep any other fish with you're piranhas. They may be getting along fine just now, bu they WILL get eaten eventually, so save yourself the money and remove the oscars :)

Cheers

Also, there is two piranha forums were you will get all the info you need about them.

really? thanks man

Hi there,

The 3 oscars in that tank is not going to work,, oscars have a bare minimum of 55g for one adult i think its something like 75g for a pair (not two fish but a pair)

The Pirana's need to be in groups really as one will become very stressed and jumpy, also Pirana's need big tanks with tonnes of filteration as they eat high protien diets making alot of mess. There is some smaller pirana's, someone on here (can't remeber the name sorry!) who was in their sig which don;t grow very big , think its stander something or other.
