Right, that's it, I'm going do buy 1 more type of test kit (recommendations welcome)!

What about the frequency and volume of water changes??
 
I'm happy with JBL, Tetra, Salifert and Sera test kits.

As for the water changes, every aquarium is different. You have to see how quickly nitrates (and other crap) accumulates in the water to know how often and how large to make water changes.

The money isn't the real issue (though it did burn).
The fish that died were two females leopard snakeskins that were pairing with the two male leopard snakeskins I have left, and the male of one of two pairs of alenquers. So out of four pairs I had one left.

Now I have these two males who are constantly fighting, possibly for the attention of the widow, who is just not interested and suffering from the unwanted attention.

Fortunately I seem to have tracked down two females with a local breeder. I'll go and check them out next week when I'm back from my holidays.

That's exactly what I'd like to avoid - and sorry for your losses, that's not fair to have it happen that way.
