i have a pair of kribs which although they swim round together all the time dont really seem interested in breeding . would a pair of rams work in the same tank? tank is 4x2x2

tank should be big enough, but the problem with cichlids is you never can tell

if you can plant the middle of the tank to create 2 areas at each end you may find it works, if not you will loose fish, my money is on the kribs surviving.

give people a chance to answer posts...

if the kribs and/or rams became in the mood to breed you would run in to problems with them been cichlids
regards scot :good:

hmmm interesting. well the tank will have a giant mangrove root in the middle so could have 2 territories as such at each end. perhaps if i had 2 female rams? not fussed if they breed or not just think they are stunning fish and would love some but not at the expense of my kribs

Tbh, if your kribs arent a pair/breeding, you may get away with it. Rams arent that aggressive, even when breeding they would mostly chase any other fish away, give the odd headbutt. Providing you give enough plants, caves etc and break up any line of sight issues, you should be ok. In any case, it wouldnt be at the expense of the kribs, it would be at the expense of the rams.

thanks for the advice. still unsure. id rather it not be at the expense of any fish at all. am trying to avoid more m/f pairing with any cichlids in case the kribs suddenly change their mind and spawn. which is why i was tinking maybe 2 female rams?

its the kribs deciding to spawn that would worry me but yeah you could get away with it

kribs and rams r my fav cichlids. i would get 2 female rams, and to make interesting colors, 1 gold and 1 blue. that would look really pretty. unless they wouldnt get along. somone correct me if im wrong plz.

rekon i will do 2 females. if the blue and bolivian would mix that would be soooo nice. anybody got any experience with this?

They will find their own territories, they dont actually mix, if they meet up, they will chase each other, but nothing serious. My boliv and GBR rarely showed any interest in each other, unless one went into the others area and then they would stand off, flare a bit and chase.

will prob end up with 2 female gbr as i can get those round here but never seen bolivian here

The best way to tell them apart if your looking for females is that females will have pink tummies and their black spot will have flecks of blue in it. Not guaranteed, but the best way I know of.
