My tank ph is currentl at 7.0 but not sure if thats down to the fishless cycle? hubbys tank is always 7.5 and because Its going to be mbuna Really I want to raise it up to about 8.0.

Is there a way i can do this?

the best way, and longest lasting, is to change your substrate to coral sand (arragonite).
also add crushed shells or coral to your filter.
adding limestone rocks will also raise the Ph.
all the above can be found in a decent LFS that stocks marine fish/equipment

also the more surface agitation you have the more CO2 is driven out of the tank, this will help keep the Ph up

If your other tank is 7.5 and comes from the same water supply, then water changes will raise your pH.

If you're in the middle of a fishless cycle, don't let the pH drop too low as it can halt the cycle - read the articles on these forums for better guidance.

Once your cycled, the items posted above are good ideas.

Hubby went and got some ph up solution today so its now at 8.0 exactly. Are theese ph up products any good?

I have a 28cm air curtain on the go too so there is good surface agitation,Does this help with a fishless cycle cause I read it does but dont see how that works? lol

I would steer clear of the pH adjuster chemicals as the effect is only temporary. It will only keep the pH in a constant up and down swing. For a mbuna tank, I would go the aragonite sand or crushed coral substrate route. It will get you to somewhere around 8.0 and stay there. You don't ever have to add anything else, just do the normal water changes.

Yeah, ph up makes your ph fluctuate too much. Its better to get crushed coral or the powdered buffer. Why are you worried about your ph anyways? Most freshwater fish dont really care what their ph is, as long as it stays constant.
