Might seem like a dumb question but what is the best way to slowly raise salinity?

I want to go from 1.005 to about 1.010

Questions

How should i do this? i.e. should i add a % of saltier water every water change? how much saltier and how much water?

how slowly do i need to go to maintain the bacteria?

do i have to be aware of anything aside from ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels?

I'd aim for up to around one "notch" on the scale every 1-2 weeks, checking the nitrites/ammonium all the time. There aren't many fish which need SG 1.010 that couldn't spend a few weeks (or months) at 1.005.

In practical terms, depends on the size of the tank. If you're changing 20% of the aquarium water, then adding water two or three notches up the scale should do the trick. So if it is SG 1.005 in the tank, then adding 20% SG 1.008 should balance out (if I was better at maths I could probably work it out).

Cheers,

Neale
