Hi, 56, if you look at the first article in MARC...

So you want a SW tank...

I give a little run down on the types of water you can use for a Marine aquarium. Donya also makes a very good case for using tapwater in a subsequent post.

Personally, I use RO/DI water, but I grow some pretty tough corals in my systems that need the very clean water using RO/DI water provides. Most people will actually be ok with tap, provided that their tapwater isn't horrible and they buy the right chemicals to condition the water. I've seen successful reefs run in Miami and Miami has terrible tapwater. Granted the people I'm referring to were not growing sps corals, but they had lovely tanks with soft corals and some lps. :)

I really don't know however, which chemicals to use to condition your water. I think Donya goes into what she uses in her post. If you can get a municiple water report, like from your water company, you can actually find out what's in your tap water. :)
