Okay, i got 5 gals of R/O water today to try it out in my tank, and put it in my 20g tank. It took the pH down from 8.6 to 8.0-7.8 cant tell as i have problems telling the slightest difference in colors. I am going to by a R/o unit soon. The store that gave me the 5 gallons of it ( for free) are selling them for 60 dollars!!!!!!!!

Distilled is different.Distilled is boiled water, R/O water is Reverse Osmosis water. The water goes through a filter cartidge with tiny tiny holes in it. It takes our EVERYTHING and leaves the water.

my school science department gave me 10 litres of distilled water for free, and wen i tested it it was a ph of 5? can u explain?

yes, it can be explained. RO water is filtered so that virtually all the mineral content is removed. this leaves the water totally un-buffered. in this state the water is absorbing everything it can from its surrounding environment, resulting in wild swings in the waters stats. even adding a test strip to the water, changes its composition.
