Would a severum be able to live in a 55 gallon w/ angelfish or does he/she have to necessarily (spelling?) have to live by itself?

I purchased a pair of 'red' severums and one killed the other.
i then purchased another to replace the lost one and the first one killed that too.
my red severum is 'happy' on his/her own.

it could work. if your understocked it will. but whats the whole tanks stocking. try it, if he bullys remove him but it hink it may work. in aquarias most sev's arent really reaching the full 12" often most will stay at a more 8" mark. but u could get one that could get 10-12"

:thanks: And I wanted to ask do any of you keep plants w/ your severum? I know they eat some but can you keep any w/ them?

I keep my sev with a number of smaller south american cichlids and they get on perfectly. He did contribute to the death of a larger male though....
A friend also keeps one with smaller community fish and again, he gets on perfectly.
I guess it just depends on the fish, but I would say it will be fine with the angel.
I have not tried my sev with plants, partly because I cannot be bothered with plants and partly because chances are that he would eat them. I woudent try it. You could however try java fern, supposedly not many fish eat it but ive never tried it.

my sev is in a 62G with an adult pair of festivums (amounst others)
I have a few plants
vallis, some plant that looks like vallis but is not, and a planted piece of bogwood (java fern)
I have just yesterday put a sprig of a type of anathiea(sp) in the to see what will happen,
so I can't say if it will be ok yet.
all the others are fine, he does however like nibbling on the vallis but not too much.

Do you think a Tiger lotus or a brazilian sword would be okay?

with plants and sevs, i think you can only do but try, it may work it may not.. as all sevs are different. just have a go with the plants you like, but i think amazons would work best.. Good luck

i had some gouramis and an african brown knife in with my sevs, they were all fine. I did however start with 3 sevs and was down to 2 pretty quickly. I think I had 2 males and a female and the 1 male killed the other. But on the plus side the 2 are now a breeding pair and are on their second batch of eggs. The mother ate the first batch when they became free swimming fry. Hopefully she won't be so nervous this time since the tankmates have been gone for awhile now.
