Would 20 fry be good in a 5 gallon tank? It would be there temporary home until they grow big enough so that the adults can't eat them. I was also wondering should I add anything to there tank like plants or any other decorations. I know they should have a filter and heater.

I think thats fine since its only gonna be for around a month or so. You can add plants if you want but I dont think you really need to, I have them in my fry grow out tank though

They should be fine for a little while, make sure you do frequent water changes and remove any waste and uneaten food. Some plants would be good, they will give them places to hide and they will peck at them too.

I also have a question if rice doesn't mind me taking to board for a sec (its the same topic sort of, didn't want to be repeatative to make a whole nother board) would my first batch of molly fry be good in a 10 gallon with an under gravel filter and a heater, along with some plants if necessary? Sorry Rice if I'm invading your board

na its ok, another question, what happens if i cant get them into a bigger tank because my parents wont let me buy a 5 gallon. Is there a household containers that may house them like Jars or something like that? Lets say i use a 2 liter soda bottle, how many can i fit in there?

Probably your best bet would be a big clear tupperware like they sometimes use for Betta fry. As long as you can keep it warm and filtered. :)

If that's not an option, I wouldn't go for jars or bottles. Unless you can find a way to keep them warm, and you'd need to do water changes pretty much every day, or every other day. I'd just do survival of the fittest until you can get a big enough fry tank.

A 10 gallon would be more than enough i wouldnt sugest the under gravel filter though just a bare botton 10 gallon with a heater and a sponge filter. Bare bottom tanks are better to clean and easier for the fish to find food. Plants are not necesary but u could add them if u wanted to.

Since i only have one heater at the moment, i was thinking of letting the Jar float in the main tank. I think i have a way to filter the water in an interesting way. Lets start off by introducing my filters condition. In the input area, there is a knub to set how much water it sucks in. I lost the mouth piece (the thing that helps fish not get suck in) so i currently attached part of a pyton to the end. At the end of the pyton, i used 2 airline tubes and stuffed it in there so it blocks fish from getting sucked in. I was thinking if i could connect a airline to the jar, how do i block the end so it won't suck any of them in? As for putting the water in there, i was thinking of putting another airline tube in the filter that acts like a pyton and sucks the water up in there and transports it to the jar. Second question is if the water being sucked up is faster then the water going inside the jar or the opposite. Im currently using a Mayo glass jar that would sink if to much water goes in and i have a few rubber bands at the top to hold it just incase something like that happened.

At the moment everything is going fine. There is only one problem which is how to get the exact amount of water going in to equal the same amount of water going out. Everything else is going well.

It's o.k but only for a little while just before the fish become 1inch. Then you'll need a 30gallon or give them away to the LFS. ;)
