can anyone advise me on if i can actually put polystyrene in my tropical fish tank to stand rocks on thankyou

under the tank yes (as long as their is not a floating frame)

inside the tank i wouldnt know but i also think you might find it hard to sink it unless the rock is very heavy


what would the reason for putting rocks on this ?

Yes polystyrene foam is safe to use in fish tanks. It floats and grows algae on it but is not going to affect the fish unless it has been contaminated by something. If you buy a new piece from a petshop and rinse it off with tap water, it will be fine

Just be careful if you have any fish in there large enough to eat the Bubble-bits that come off (depending what type of polystyrene it is) most polystyrene is nicely squished and heated so to make a flat sheet, but stuff like packing polystyrene is made of bubbles of polystyrene simply heated together.

These bubble bits have been eaten by cichlids in the past. when eaten the gut is blocked and sadly the fish tend to swell up and die. Its very sad.
