Question About Snails Eating My Fishes Eggs

Here is a picture of a snail I found in my Breeding Kribensis tank:

The last batch my Kribs had had failed to live; for unknown reason, until.... Would snails in my tank this big, be big enough to eat my Kribensis eggs?

I think they will if they can get at them. I have some similar red ramshorns and have seen them eating corydoras eggs.

What is a good method for getting rid of the snails?

These days I've been thinking that there is no good method. Some people recommend adding vegetables to a tank and picking it out while the snails are eating it but I've had no luck with that. The tanks I keep otos and BN plecos in seem to have as many, possibly more snails than, the other tanks. I think they sneak out at night, gobble up the zucchini and then sneak off and hide in the morning.

I've also known someone who claims to have had success by adding apple snails to his tank. He said the apple snail eats the eggs of the smaller snails. Since they lay their eggs out of the water they can be easily controlled. I've thought about trying it but, of course, would not recommend you do it if you are trying to breed fish in there.

I hope there are not too many snails in my tank, and that maybe one day I will find a way to control them.

Hi FHM, a sure way to get rid of snails completely would be to add a single zebra loach. I had a real snail problem until i added my single zebra, literally a day and a half later every snail was gone. I have never had a snail problem since he has been in there.

I would highly recommend trying.

Would this zebra loach pose a threat to either my Kirbs or the eggs they are about to lay?

surely it would eat the eggs aswell i would add one for a week or 2 then move to another tank if you have one
then you will be able to carry on breeding or you could try one assassin snail
