Question About P@h... Out Of Interest

Just because i hadn't been in for a while, i decided to go into pets at home. First impression, tanks looked clean and healthy.

Then as i looked closer i noticed most of the fish were swimming at 45 degree angles,

I noticed it more with the neon tetras, tails pointing upwards and looking as if they couldn't swim down and swimming in jerky, sharp downward movements.

I'm not making this to say how bad p@h is as this ones usually good and theyre obviously have problems that might not be their fault.

I'm just wondering what the whole swimming at a 45 degree angle was about as most of the fish in each tank were doing it. Particularly the neon tetras. I didn't see a neon that wasn't doing it...

although their display tanks (the ones where they're selling the tank not the fish) looked really good and healthy, i noticed theyd had a shuffle round and put some angels in a bigger tank and all the usual stuff that makes me think this p@h is quite good.

to be honest, pets at homes has a very good selection of fish, but i think everytime ive been for fish there has been dead fish. and when ther hasnt been dead fish, after purchasing some ive ended up with white spot every time!!!!

im not sayin every pets at home is the same, but just my local one.

Well, i was trying to not turn this into a hate thread... But mine has its problems...

Corys... they have about 10 different types, but one of each and theyre spread across 10 tanks and look unhappy. Why not put them in one tank?

I never have to look far to find dead fish and ive seen a few with whitespot.

But, i shall defend them as i have heard them giving out decent advise...

But then they had a pair of oscars on their own with a plec... Now theyve gone and chucked a load of livebarers in...

Its like i change my mind... Then they do something to change my mind again...

pets at home are a general pets shop not a fish store, yes there are some worse than others but if you dont like what you see on first impressions steer clear
i have one close and the only things i have bought is my fluval200 and some odds n sods, but after a bad experoence in dundee store wouldnt be tempted to buy fish from them
and i know for a fact someone will have a different opion, but this is mine

just lack of knowledge on the part of some of the staff.. for instance in my local 4 of the lads know bugga all about bugga all, but theres a girl there and she really knows her stuff- maybe shes a secret member here,she really shows a love of them, but of course she has rules to stick by so cant go advising of her own methods

no no no last thing this will be is a hate thread.....

i still regularly go to my local pets at homes, but now i know what to look for and steer clear of.

1 thing that stuck in my mind was to buy a clown loach to get rid of snails...for a 60l tank lol

as said i think its just a knowledge thing as there are some who really dont know nothing, and others who are full of knowledge and will go out of their way to show you something and give spot on advice.

i've heard that white spot is a common problem at pets at home, but i dont really have anywhere else decent to go to that has healthy looking fish
