first off i know its about pond fish so should be in that forum but not as many people go there and its basilcy the same for whatever fish.

im getting 3, 14 inch koi from a house that im working in due to them taken the pond down. i dont want to put them straight into my pond so obveous reasons. ive never really quarantined fish before.

i konw they are surpose to be in quarantine foir aroiund 4 weeks but that quite a while as the the pond and quarantine will be unheated i would prefer to move them in asap due to the tank not being as big as it should be (its 40x24x20 lxwxd in inch's).

is there anything i can put in to speed the process up? the pond will be filterd using some mature media from the pond.

thanks
chris

First off are there currently any fish in your pond? If not then you don't necessarily need to quarantine the new koi as there's nothing for them to pass their germs onto in the new pond. You could just add them straight to the pond. (I ask this because in your last sentence you talk about filtering the pond with the media from the old pond which risks transferring over diseases anyway)

Otherwise as far as I'm aware there's no way of speeding up the the process. 4 weeks is chosen because it is long enough for most diseases to mature and become apparent. Since there isn't a sure fire and safe way to speed up all disease life cycles you are stuck with the 4 week rule.

The other thing is how long have you been working at the house, if you've seen that there's been no fatalities/diseases in the pond for the last few months then this would also reduce the risk if you chose not to quarantine them.

Hope this helps.

hi

the my koi pond has around 15-20 nice size koi (mainly 15-20 inch)

i would setup a little filter for the quarantine tank/pond and use mature media from my koi pond

ive been working there for around a week. (they dont have filters running in the winter (from the old owers who sold the house) its a little garden pond about 6ft round by about 2ft deep. basicly its not suitable pond and to be honest dont want to risk it with our current fish

thanks
