On satuarday I bought 22 rummynose tetra some corys and dwarf cichlids. Thank #### I put them in a quarantine/hospital tank.
It turnes out the rummy nose were infected with Neon tetra disease they looked very healthy upon purchase~
info link on the parasite~ http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/neondisease.htm
As of now only 4 from 22 are still alive and 1 of the corys has died from the same thing, ,most if not all of the fish in the tank will likely die. There is no cure.

#Thankfully the lfs has refunded me the money and apoligised the the problem.

These fish were due to go into my community tank, it would have broke my heart and my wallet to lose all the fish in there as well.

This is a little reminder that the quarantine of fish is essential if you are adding to your tank.

Why did you buy that many fish at once anyway? Thats alot of fish to add at once.

it's not if you have a fully mature filter system and are overly filtered
the size of the fish wouldn't make a great impact on the filters

Cold water fish are a different matter as they are so messy only one ro 2 can be added at a time

I usually add 5-10 small fish at once and the filters are fine with it

The tank has a mature filter so I saw no problem in adding them together. The bioload from 30 tiny fish is small, its similar to adding one or two large fish to a tank.
Buying them together means I dont have to quarantine three loads of fish for a month each, saving time work and electricity costs.

Rummy noses are small slim fish, the bioload from them is very small. Most tank's, provided the current inhabitants aren't a single platy, can handle a large increase in stock level quite easily since the difference between what the bacteria have to eat to survive and what they can eat when provided with an excess is significant and they can reproduce quickly.

Quarantine is cheap and easy insurance for your fish tank.
