Slate is excellent. If there any sharp edges, just file them off.

slates great....
i just found a huge peice at my local garden centre, 1ft/10inch/4inch deep, i found it had a hair line fracture in the centre so manage to split it in two and its brilliant, and i only paid 3pounds for it
