I've been meaning to restock my aquarium, but taking fish home from the pet store seems to put a lot of stress on the fish and a lot of them die a day or two after I take them home. I was wondering if anyone new anything about purchasing fish eggs online such as good and bad retailers, good eggs to buy online and eggs to avoid buying online, general tips, and the pros and cons of purchasing the eggs instead of live fish from the pet store.

My tank is 15 gallons, freshwater, with two long whiskered catfish, two Chinese algae eaters, and a few plants.

Thanks for your help! :)

That's is odd that your new fish die so quickly. If you can you should bring a sample of your tank water to your LFS, they should be able to test your water parameters.
In terms of purchasing eggs, the only eggs I have ever eno#37###er that were for purchase were Annual Killifish eggs.

Alright, thanks. I'll try testing the water.

To raise fry is a lot harder then bring sub adults home. If the fish die you might have a problem. Is the tank cycled?

im sure 15 gal is a bit on the small side for CAE they are nasty fish, and will cause issues when they big enough.. my advice.. sell him on

Forget the egg idea. (Take it from a killifish enthusiast not a good plan)
Go to your LFS, if you see a fish you like that is healthy and lively. Ask the LFS for a run down on their water stats. Reserve your fish, return home and replicate the dealers tank water as near as possible to minimise losses. Then when you eventually get your fish home acclimatise them slowly over an hour or two.
This should ensure that the transfer will be as stress free as possible for the fish.

Back when I was breeding rainbows, I used to sell mops of eggs all the time. They are much more difficult to raise from eggs than to buy as sub adults. If you are having problems keeping sub adult fish alive then you have problems with your tank.
