Pronunciation

When I walk into a pet store here in SA, and they start talking about Chick-lids,.... I just turn around and walk out again..... To me, it is an indication that they know zulch about fish.....

Chicklids??? Lol.

My 4 possibilities came as follows.

The first letter is C. C has 2 sounds, a hard sound (like k) and a soft sound (like s).

The ch, has it's normal pronunciation (like the ch in chick) but in can sometimes form a k like sound. So my 4 options were

Soft c - regular ch
hard c - regular ch
soft c - irregular ch
hard c - irregular ch

I think hearing any of those would be... OK. Obviously to completely trust someone on the species, you want the correct pronunciation, but if they deal with livebearers, then as long as they are trying...

What I don't get is people starting the word with a ch. Or not putting the ch in the middle (like that chillids post...). It's like they can't be bothered to read a full word.

Sorry, didn't mean to be rude. I sometimes forget about things like that and just look at things how I see them. So sorry if it caused offence.

ye its ok don't worry about it :) i wasn't annoyed at u just myself for not reading it properly when i first started fish keeping.

c can be said like cent, arc and vivace. ch can be said like chain, chemistry and cloche.
