I always said Bichir "birch-er" and Polypterus "polip-terus", lol.
Sean
thats how i said it but it never sounded right and never attempted Polypterus

Strictly speaking 'Polypterus' SHOULD be pronounced poli - pterus (though it isn't) as the words are greek meaning - many wings/fins. But yeah, nevermind... The english language for ya :p

Hm. Is it "bichir" or "birchir"? The latter came up as a misspelling on google...
Well then it must be bichir, lol. Maybe it's both? I've always heard it as bichir...

Usually I just point and say "One of those please" :p I don't have any shops near me that are smart enought to pronaounce it correctly anyway

We've always pronounced it like the surname of the doctor in StarTrek:Deep Space Nine... which is why ours is called Julian :D
