how do you pronounce birchirs and there proper name Polypterus

I say it as Bish-ear I say Polypterus As polip-terus It only matters that I spell it correctly on this forum

thats how i said it but it never sounded right and never attempted Polypterus

Strictly speaking 'Polypterus' SHOULD be pronounced poli - pterus (though it isn't) as the words are greek meaning - many wings/fins. But yeah, nevermind... The english language for ya

Usually I just point and say "One of those please" I don't have any shops near me that are smart enought to pronaounce it correctly anyway

We've always pronounced it like the surname of the doctor in StarTrekeep Space Nine... which is why ours is called Julian
