i just recently ran out of my regular water conditioner and had some stuff my brother brought me called prime. he says its a great product but the stuff
smells SO SO SO horrible. like sulfur mostly. the tank doesnt smell after doing water changes though which is good.

i looked at the bottle again today though it says it removes amonia and detoxifies nitrite and nitrate.

now i was under the impression that products that claim to do this dont really make these chemicals 'disappear' but just blocks them and could later cause an amonia spike? like 'amo-lock' or stuff like that.

but if all my stats are good i shouldnt really have anything to worry about right?

I have used Seachem's Prime for years now, even ina discus tank and have never had a problem with ammonia or any other toxin levels. My 120 gallon is three years old now and has only ever had pirme as a water conditioner.

I buy Prime in the 2 liter jug. If you are worried about the ammonia coming back, don't, as it turns ammonia into ammonium, a substance harmless to fish but still used the same as ammonia by your nitrifying bacteria. As far as detoxing nitrite & nitrate, trying to get any detailed info out of Seachem as to what the components are that do this is nearly impossible, to date I don't know anyone who has gotten this info. I do believe there is some research out there that shows that it actually does this, it will take me some time to find a link.

Prime is awesome stuff. Its like super concentrated so you dont really need much and if you have any NH3 or NO2, itll pretty much detoxify that. I use a drop of it every other day if i forget to do a water change on my betta.

I think Prime is a fantastic product. I use it whenever my ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels have a spike or are a little too high. I would recommend it for the novice fishkeeper to use.
