so heres my question. People say not to use products like Ammo-lock which alter ammonia to the ammonium but Prime is ok? I'm just curious, I use prime and love it. Prime doesn't have any detrimental effects on the bio filter?

This type of product (Ammo-Lock, Prime, Amquel etc.) does not convert ammonia to ammonium, it converts it to a molecule which is non-toxic to our fish and which can still be metabolised by the nitrifying bacteria. So do they have a detrimental effect on the biofilter? Not really, the molecule is harder to metabolise, meaning that it takes a while longer to process the ammonia but as the molecule is stable for at least 24hrs and more like 48hrs our fish are quite safe.
