I have 500 ml of Tetra AquaSafe bought from a LFS and it wasn't cheap, dosage is 5ml for every 10 litres of water.

The internet shows me 5ml Seachem Prime treats 200 litres with 5ml of solution.

The difference is incredible! Seachem appears to be 20 times more effective and purchase price is about the same so I am spending 20 times what I need to. Can anyone explain why I might continue to do this? What's in the Tetra product that isn't in the Seachem? I'm only really concerned with this recently because I bought a larger tank because for seven years in a smaller tank I just put the water straight in and didn't lose any fish.

Cheers

As far as I know, Prime is much more concentrated so you need very little. I've used Aquasafe before and switched to Prime and I wouldn't go back. Better value in the long run.

Water, I'd imagine. I don't know why Prime isn't stocked in more LFS. The Tetra stuff seems to be everywhere but it's by no means the best option because as you said, it costs so much more to keep a large tank going. I'd imagine the profit margins on Prime are less since it's more concentrated, whereas with Tetra they can water it down and sell for more.

Prime all the way. :good: I've used nutrafin, and it worked just as well, but I really didn't like adding that much chemicals to my tank. I know prime is obviously more concentrated, it just feels better to add so little.

Edit: it's also nice for large tanks since only a cap full is 50gals. I w/c with water straight from the tap (no buckets) and just dose with prime for the full tank. Haven't had any problems. :good:

I use Stress Coat+ and it is also 5ml for 10 gallons. I cut through that like butter so I ended up just buying a large bottle of it for around 10-15 dollars.

Also applies to other products. I went for pond fertiliser rather than aquarium ones. More concentrated, does the job as well, much better value.

I think I may switch but what Im using works well, so I don't know.

Adrian, just had a quick read up on the product you mentioned, sounds good mate. :good:

Prime is still my favourite though. :D

I looked at my LFS and they don't have Prime. ;(
