Preparing Slate

Got some roof tiles that fell off my grans house. What should i do to them before they go in?

I just scrubbed mine with a stiff brush

if there's no rust on them, scrub them in hot water, then add a few drops of vinegar on it. if there's no bubbling, it's safe to use.

slate doesnt need to be tested with vinegar, just check for metal deposits, and boil them for about 30 mins

I agree with truckasauras123. slate is metamorphic rock (formed when other rocks are heated and crushed underground. it can sometimes comtain metals so check thouroughly. it wont contain calcium compounds that will make it fizz with vinegar. I personally always boil my rocks as it kills any microbes without exception. make sure they are cooled before they go in the tank though.
