Powerhead On 24/7 ?

Is it best to leave Powerheads on 24/7 or is it bad for the fish ?

Leave them on 24/7, the fish should be fine with it providing that there are areas where there is little flow.

Less chance of wear and tear from constant starting/stopping/clogging etc.

Just to add to that, in a system such as L plates, it provides better nutrient distribution, which is likely to inhibit algal growth.

are they, well in rivers at least? if you have a river near you, you can see the variation in flow, almost, day by day. no rain, river slows. lots, it speeds up.

You could also raise the power head at night as well, have it running on the surface, L plates. It will create a good amount of 02 for the plants and fish overnight.
