Possible Re-Stocking?

Well, I'm considering changing most of my stock and replacing them with fish from South America.

I currently have a pair of Keyholes's and a L202 pleco, which will stay in the tank as they are from South America as you'll know.
Now I want a community tank, i'm not going down the small Cichlid route as the tank isn't quite big enough for what i'd want to achieve with Cichlids. It's 55 gallon, 200 litres, 3'3" by 15"? by 18"? Something along those lines. Filtration is good, no worries with that.

As much as I love my current fish, i'd really like to set the tank up to be specific to one part of the world.

Here's what I had in mind.

The Keyhole's
The L202
10 or so Tetra's. Maybe Cardinal's or Rummy's? What will the Keyhole's be like with these?
6+ Corydoras. Bronze? What else is reasonably priced these days Cory's wise?
Maybe Hatchetfish? Only a thought for now. Again, compatability?
A pair of something else? Maybe Bolivians? Firemouths? Angel's? Tank suitable?

Feel free to add suggestions and advice.

Yeah, im really into it at the minute Ian. My brother has a Tanganyikan setup. Different yes, but I love the whole natural habitat thing.
I've got Rummy's in a Tetra tank and they are lovely. But Cardinal's equally are really nice. I'm going to weigh up my options with the Tetra's as I'd like a nice shoal to compliment the tank.

No doubt I will be asking you about plants in the near future

The most reasonable corys I have seen recently other than bronze are the albinos, and peppered. Again I prefer the albinos, I have a few in my main tank and they are about a year and look great. They were in my local MA @ 6 for a tenner. There is some nice looking corys out there at the min.

Your right there is.

Like discussed on a thread over in the Catfish sub-forum they are getting expensive though. But I don't mind paying a few quid for a nice set of fish. Gold stripes are a favourite of mine, but it's just wether you can get a decent price for them. I'll keep my eye out.

I think you could easily have
2 Keyholes
2 Red breasted acara
10 Cardinal tetra
10 Marble hatchets
10 Corys, i would go for pandas
L202
Then maybe 1 Festivum or Angel cichlid just for a bigger fish near the surface.
Or you could go for a more specific biotope and actually pick a river like i am for my 150G.

Hi Sorry to Hijack, but why do you say get cardinals instead of rummy noses?

I only ask because I was going to order some rummy nose tetras.

Answering on behalf of Ian, im guessing it's down to personal preferance. Cardinal's are extremely attractive especially under decent lighting. Also, they look stunning in front of plants in a well planted tank. Rummy-nose can be a little bit sensitive, but they are beautiful. When they thrive in your tank, there red nose shows beautifully, mine are looking great at the minute.

Im planning on a Tapajo biotope with something like
pair Hypselecara coryphaenoides
pair Heros Efasciatus
4-5 Geophagus red head
6 Crenicichla regani
1 Panaque nigrolineatus

All can be found in Tapajo but i doubt ill ever find all the first that have come from there so might have to settle for them fish but collected from other rivers.

I've been looking at a Orinoco Delta biotope in Venezuela. Both my Lnumber and Keyhole's can be found there. Aswell as several Tetra and Corydoras species.

Yeah planet catfish is a great site. The second one is always the first place i look for info on non catfish its a great site will spot on info IMO.

The orinoco is a great river to do a biotope on Those two sites are a great source for them but there are quite a few undescribed cichids species that come from the Orrinoco so keep your eyes peeled on Aquarist Classified. A few Laetacaras and other acara types - I think that there is a group of Guianacaras that come from there?

I really like Kiznos stocking list sounds really good but remember that there are a few Laetacara species around now so you could find something really nice and interesting Also just as a personal thing, I prefer the slightly more subdued tetras in these kind of tanks like lemons or xrays? Just a thought they look more natural IMO and in biotope settings its quite interesting to balance like this?.

Should be a great tank though
