Was reading up a long time ago about wood for cichlid tank. The site said you could put ordinary beechwood in.
It was cut at the beginning of last year and was left to dry until a month ago and is now steeping in a barrel of water. Does anyone know can this be done would it be safe enough or is someone talking through their hat. They're about the thickness of a mans forearm and about 5ft long. I'd like to add its not a straight bit of wood its like a trunk with a couple of branches coming off it. Any help would be much appreciated.

It should be fine, as long as you did not use nasty pesticides in the close vicinity of the wood. I use oak like that on a regular basis.
