Please help, my border collie has been poorly for the past two weeks he has been to the vets various times and cant find a problem with them. He has had blood test's and various scan's on his intestine and stomach. The vet thinks he is in the clear now as long as he start's eating, this is where my problem lies, I have tried all his favorite treats and foods but I can't get him to eat anything at all....Please help me in trying to get him to eat I am tearing my hair out.

When did he last eat, and when did the vet last see him? I would get him back to the vet, ASAP, tbh.

He was at the vet's yesterday....The vet say's he is looking healthier then when he first went in, he has told me to go back on Monday. He is drinking water. If he is not eating by Monday evening he will be admitted back in for more test's! He is bubbly and looks fine but just not eating although the last couple of days he has been smelling the food and slavering.

Have you tried something like cheese? Normally dogs can't resist the stuff. Don't give huge quantities, just little bits to see if you can coax his appetite back? If he refuses to eat by tomorrow, I'd take him back to the vets, just to be safe.

Another thing is, does he eat his food off the floor? We had a problem with our normally greedy elderly colly going off her food- it was because she had to stoop to eat and couldn't breath (she has heart failure). Try putting his food bowl on a small table, so it's easier for him to eat?

this is a treat to a dog and should be given once in a blue moon... sooo make some bacon and take the bacon grease and then put it on the dogs food.. the dog is already in the house and will smell the amazing bacon cooking up. then give it to him and he should eat it.

try that :)

if not that.. try some ham... dogs usually go nuts for that.

Thanks for all the reply's. Unbelievably he has just a had a couple of chews.....The secret to my success was striking a match. The wife decided to put a couple of of candles on in the living room and the other dog got really excited and started to run around whilst the poorly dog decided to eat the chews that a had surrounded around him early in the afternoon....hopefully this will be the start of eating full meals again!!! :good:
