My brother-in-law has a 75 gallon tank with 2 HOB filters, two canister filters, a nice stand and an adequate cover. The tank contain one plec that I cannot identify. The plec is ~ 7" long and has been in the tank for 2 years. Here is the sad part. The tank level was down three inches and when I asked my sister she said that they "may" have done a water change 1 time. I took my test kit to check it out. Ofcourse the Nitrate was off the scale of my API liquid test. :shout:

More bad news... the tank heater was unplugged and only one canister filter was operating (barely enough to disturb the water surface).

Doesn't seem fair that I'm stuck with a 20 gallon tank while that setup is going to waste (and torturing the poor fishy)

Perhaps he has lost interest. I can't imagine the contents of the tank looks that attractive with the low water level and no maintenance. Pehaps you would be doing him a favour by taking it off his hands ;)

Yeah, try and get it off him for a good deal! Sounds like my neighbor who amongst many other travesties against mother nature has 6 large red bellied piranah's in a 55 gallon tank. No heater, one filter that has never had maintenance, and no water changes. Their diet consists soley of hot dogs and table scraps. He asked me to watch their pets when they went on vacation. I did a water test on that tank and his 40ish gallon tank that had 2 dozen goldfish and a common pleco. Both tanks were off the chart. Well I did almost 100% water changes on both his tanks and did some maintenance on his equipment. Of course a couple days later almost every goldfish died
