Hello all,

Went into the city today to browse the pet and fish stores to see what was happening... I was so shocked at the poor conditions fish are being kept in :( in one shop a betta was stuck to the filter, but still kicking about so my girlfriend said to the woman and she moved it and the betta seemed to be ok... the reply from the woman was "pointless, it will just get stuck and die" Went to Pets at home and 25% of thier tanks were quarantined and another 8 tanks should have been cos they were kicking with white spot :( Pure shame

yep same at most places now,all there in it for is the money, obviously its a buisness but if you are selling animals or fish they should be cared for as your own not a money machine.pets at home is hope less, no advice given and tanks in bad condition with dead fish all over the place, ive never brought a fish from there and never intend to either.

Check out my local walmart newstock there isn't going to last more then 1 week and eventurally all die.

It totally amazes me how these places manage to sell fish but obviously they do .It also astounds me that people will actually buy fish from a tank that has 3 or 4 long dead fish in it.I assume if they went in to buy a budgie and there were 3 or 4 dead on the cage floor that they wouldnt bother,so why dont they think the same way about fish?

I see alot of fish in Petsmart are in bad conditions these days. I wish they cared more for their fish but I think it is because they are pet wear-housing units. I hate most of the people that work there because they are so clueless on the SIMPLE care requirments for a simple little guppy!

One of my lfs has a a bad dose of white spot for weeks and carnt seem to get rid of it. 9 tanks all go to the 1 filter, soon as 1 tank has a out break ALL the other 8 have it too. Cross contamination happend through not having individual nets for each block of 9 tanks, then there was over 27 tanks FULL of white spot. :X

But through the weeks of white spot being ever present in their systems fish were still being sold!!
They have managed to sort out the problem in most of the tanks mainly through mass fish deaths and using loads of parasite meds. :sly:

It makes you think twice about buying fish from these Fish shops.
Given the choice id rather buy from a person who understands, looks after and breeds there own quality fish any day!!! ;)
