Pond Plants

Hi,
 
Today I gave my pond a bit of a clean, mostly getting rid of leaves and sorting out the netting.  I was really surprised that there was no sign of the lillies, and a huge amount of Elodea.  It's the first winter that I've had a pond.  It is 1,500 litres with about 10 fish.
 
So:

• Can you have too much Elodea in a pond?
• Do lillies normally dissappear then re-grow when its warmer?
• Should I leave the filter running all the time through the winter?

As long as the fish have room to swim, no, you can't have too much elodea
 
Yes, water lilies normally die back in winter.
 
Leaving the filter running is a matter of how it's set up; if it's going to cool the water (by taking it from the bottom of the pond and running it to an outside box filter, for instance) then switch it off.

Yes the filter does exactly that so I'll turn it off, presumably turn it on late March?

once your elodea gets established you'll find you need to remove lots as it takes over.

Excess elodea makes great compost; or you can use it as a mulch too
 
Switch the filter back on once you start feeding the fish again; so when the temperature gets to around 10°C.

lilies have roots under the ground like logs the lily pads are connected to these "logs". If those logs get damaged or freeze through -they die
