Hi,
I am making my own pond filter and am trying to find cheap materials to use as media, I have bought some small sponges/scourers from a local supermarket, they were the cheapest available in the basics range, there are no antibacterial claims on the packaging, there just basic foam sponges. Are they likely to contain chemicals and will they be ok to use do you think.

Thanks

If they don't claim it on the packet, they should be fine.
A lot of companies like to boast that their sponges are the best, so any "additives" like antibacterial properties would be plastered across the packet like nothing on earth.

I use these pot scrubbers as media in some of my tank filters. They work fine as biomedia and cost very little compared to most media.
