Pond electrics

I have a pond that is filtered via a submerged pump into an external UV filter (Fishmate). recently I have had a problem with my electrical trip cutting my power and I traced it to my pond power supply.I determined that the pump was fine but my UV filter was the cause, opening the bulb compartment I see that the bulb is black, could the dead bulb be making the trip go, there seems to be nothing else wrong with the filter except the bulb which I have removed and am just passing the water through the filter media at the moment until I get a replacement bulb.
