Pls Help Fish Being Bullied :-(

As long as it isn't the same one you brought the fish from...

thats a good point

What fish shop is this? It beggars belief that any employee of a LFS wouldn't know the difference between males and females and I want to make sure I never visit!

Seriously though, my advice would be to take back the plec and guppies. If your water stats are good, add more tetras, then if your water is ok after a week or so maybe a shoal of corydoras.

Maybe next you could get your gourami a couple of lady friends. And then you could see what else you like, there are some stunning fish out there. I am waiting for my guppies etc to die of old age (I am too attached to get rid!) as I would live to get some Bolivian rams or kribensis but my tank is fully stocked.

I have just looked up a pic of a bristlenose pleco and I actually think we might have one of those rather than the normal pleco, Im going to try and upload a photo to see what you guys think.

Ive also taken a pic of the molly thats being bullied, I think its a female??

Our heater was from our smaller tank, its a pro 25 so we were told its ok for now with the larger tank but to upgrade to a larger watt so it doesnt constantly overwork?

The shop we purchased everything from is Maidenhead Acquatics, I will call them shortly to see if they will take back the 4 guppies and purchase 10 more neons and 2 more mollys? Maybe black ones. If both my mollys are indeed female, do I purchase more female mollys and avoid males or doesnt it matter? I dont think I am experienced enough to deal with babies at the moment! lol

Later, if I were to purchase 2 lady dwarf gueramis to keep my male company are we likely to have lots of babies? Or is that a very stupid question haha

Will purchase a water tester so we can make sure everything is OK that side, I did take a sample in to the shop

I cant thank you all enough for your advice :)
Having trouble uploading so will post this and try again

Upload the pictures to photobucket or flickr.

If the heater is 25w then yes you do need a bigger one. As i said, anything 120w or above will be fine.

If you do have a Bristlenose then they are correct. The stay around the 4-5" mark.

I would be looking at something like this as my stock list:

12 Neons
6 Corydoras
2 Dwarf Gourami's
1-2 Bristlenose

I would be inclined to have Platies over Mollies but that is just personal preference.

I would then consider maybe adding a pair of Apistogramma dwarf cichlids at some point in the future.

If you do keep the Mollies as long as you end up with a ratio of 1 male to at least 2 ideally 3 females you will be fine.

EDIT: Thats not a Molly it's a Platy. lol. And yes it is a BN rather than a Common Plec.

ha ha ha I bet you wished you never logged on this morning!

So its 2 female platys we have then, OK. Will return the 4 guppies (ive just checked and they really are guppys lol)

So my tank will have:

14 neons (10 additions)
2 dwarf guerami's (one male already, one added female)??
2 female PLATYS (already there)
1 BN (already there)
2 Apistogramma dwarf cichlids (to be added later) Does the sex matter?
4 corydoras (to be added later) Does the sex matter?

Once again, I cant thank you enough for all your help and advice and Im sorry to take up so much of your time!

You're welcome mate.

I would stick with adding maybe 6-8 Neons for the time being and add any more accordingly once you see how the shoal/tank looks. You may think it looks too full. If the other Platy has the same anal fin as the one you posted then yes, you have 2 females. If the Gourami you already have is a male then add a female. I would stock 6 Corydoras rather than 4 as you will see a much better natural behaviour from them. They're very sociable and a schooling genus of fish. The Apisto's will be better as a male and a female pairing rather than a same sex pair.

Thanks again everyone, the fish are all set up and the tank looks lovely, I took the guppies back yesterday and got some more neons and two cichlids which I love. Ive just noticed in the new tank, on most of all the plastic plants they all have a white fur, any ideas what this could be? Its not on the fish and they seem fine? Ive looked for what it could be already before asking but all I get is white spots on fish and this isnt on the fish, only the plants...

I don't know what it could be but I would definitely oik them out and give them a good scrub with dechlorinated water.

The name escapes me and I cant seem to find it either, so until I go back to the shop Im not sure, here is a pic though, you will probably know. Apparently they are hard to sex so we arent sure what we got but these ones are the more placid ones (we got two of them). They have been in the tank a few days now and I have to say, currently it is a very peaceful tank and thats without lots of hiding places that Im working on adding asap... I washed the affected plants with the white fuzz and fingers crossed it hasnt come back yet.
