I've got 2 young sexed pairs of F2 Apistogramma cacatuoides - triple reds , comming tomorrow
They are going in a quarentine tank for a while but then will be transferring to a Rio 240ltr tank
It's going to be quite heavilly planted with bogwood and coconut caves
they will be living with the following fish

(filters 1200 lph external + 1000 lph internal) - 5 Dwarf,8 honey gouramis,2 bolivian , 3 gold balloon rams , 4 bn plecs , 2 L411 plecs and some corys , shrimps and snails
maybe 2 german blue rams or opaline gouramis or a few more honey gouramis

MY water is soft and ph 7 , will 2 pairs be ok - could i add more apsitos instead of something else or would 2 pairs be the max

I've heard that apisto's will claim about 2 square feet of tank bottom as their territory (from SF.com) so two pairs might be an option, as long as you've aquascaped in such a way that they'll have enough features - bogwood piles, rock caves etc - to be able to do that. Although with 6 plec's you might struggle a bit.

Worth waiting for a second opinion though, 99% of my apisto knowledge is second hand.

should be ok
i got 4 bn plecs with over 40 corys and some rams in 180 litre

Just wondering wether i could have another sort of apisto?

got them from ebay - £31.50 for 2 pairs delivered , i know some people might find this a bit expensive but at least i definately got 2 pairs and then i can pick up some more ladies to add to the pairs

Sounds good,

I hve never bought any live fish over the internet before, I will have to see once the tank is cycled. I now have my ammonia, just got to sort out the filter and then i will begin cycling

sorry for being a bringer of bad news, but my mate had a trio of cockatoos in his 200 litre (1m 2f) and also a male and female dwarf gourami, the male dwarf attacked the male and killed him and constantly harrassed the female with her fry, i think that was an aggressive male dwarf, but i just thought id let you know, i presume honeys would be fine though

if you get all male dwarfs, you might not have a problem as there are no females to send them scatty

I always remove the bubble nests from the gouramis once they have bred into nets - this way the male dwarves turn back into tame pussy cats again - if you leave the bubble nest with the eggs in they turn into man eating tigers lol

what are the dimensions of the tank?

I would stick the the two pairs for now and see how they get on before you get anything else. You may find that 1 male will be the dominant male throughout your whole tank and take the two females for himself and leave the other male to get beat up...you never know how each individual fish will act so just wait and see how it goes with the two pairs you are getting.
