My male swordtail keeps poke the female with his tail why is this ? Is he hurting her ? Thank you

This is often normal behaviour, but it can be severely stressful to the female. Which is why with livebearers, two or three females to a male is advisable. Or just males (remember, with females present there will be fry, and dozens every month).
