Just discovered that one of my blue acaras is a blue texas cichlid - thanks davo :)

Now the other two I have are much smaller about 3-4" and dont have his colouring, so Im wondering if they are BA's or if someone can ID them as something else.

Im gutted, gotta lose the texas, which is a shame as he is a gorgeous fish :(

Anyone any idea?

Are you sure?

Do you want a texas? Your close to me?

I'd love it but have nowhere for it to go, apart from maybe the bathtub??

where did you get it from and how long have you had it? I'd return it to your LFS

From aquatics direct!!!! I order two BA's from them and this guy and a dead guy (presumed killed) arrived about 8/9 weeks ago, he was in a terrible state and Ive nursed him back to health - they then sent me two more as replacements - thankfully they are BA's.

I dont want him to go, hes gorgeous - but I cant leave him in with the O - I need another tank, but the only space I have is my bedroom and the most weight I would feel comfortable with up there i 180/190L and it wouldnt be large enough in the long run.

Im so sad now.

well if they sent a texas and an acara in a bag then that would definitely be the outcome

whats in the Severum tank? If its just one Sev then it could go in with Merlin leaving that tank free for the Texas?

Unfortunately, I have two sev's in the tank, along with 2 Geo surinamensis, 2 blue acara! and 8 congo tetras. So thats a no go.

New tank time? I know its 75g minimum blah blah, but on his own, whats the min I could get away with??

How long can I keep the O and the Tx together before I can expect problems?

They will generally mature at between 6-8 inches, and this is when potential problems may occur.

if you've got enough cover to break up the lines of site, they may be ok for a while yet, especially if they have been introduced young and are growing up together

Well tx is about 6" now, O is about 4" not much in it, not much in the way of decor mind you, as I stripped the tank down and just left it with bogwood, although there are caves in amongst the wood.

They seem ok at the moment, occassionally the tx has a rush at the O, who in turn runs like mad as fast as possible.

Im looking for another tank, dont wanna lose him, hes too nice.

Well after much searching, nothing second hand for the size available. Sooooooooo he's getting a brand new fluval roma 200 (I know its only 3ft) best I could find and Ive turned the house upside down to make space for it - its 50g so that will have to do. Its 18" wide which is plenty as they only get to 12".

For a fish that basically cost me nothing - he's now the most expensive fish

lol oh no . I think we all know how that can go :p

I'm glad ur keeping him. He is certainly a great looking fish.
