Hey, my pleco used to live in a 29 gallon tank but it is now in a ten gallon with two zebra danios and three shrimp. I've had it for two years and it hasn't grown any bigger than 3 to 4 inches. It is light brown/tan with a lot of subtle stripes. It has a more thin body build than most of the pictures I've seen online. If anyone has or knows about this fish I would greatly appreciate the help.

Hi! Sounds like a bristlenose pleco. A 10 gallon tank is not large enough for one as they have a large bio-load. The bare minimum is a 20 gallon tank.

Hey, Deanasue, I have researched Bristlenose Plecos and they don't look like him, also he doesn't have a bristled nose.????

The females don’t have many bristles but it could be a rubbernose pleco too.

Ok, do you know if he will grow any larger than he already is? When he was in the 29 gallon tank with a lot of space and algae he still wasn't growing.

Both BN and Rubbernose only get to about 4”.

Any chance of a picture of the fish?
If the pictures are too big for the website, set the camera's resolution to its lowest setting and take some more. The lower resolution will make the images smaller and they should fit on this website. Check the pictures on your pc and find a couple that are clear and show the problem, and post them here. Make sure you turn the camera's resolution back up after you have taken the pics otherwise all your pictures will be small.

Hello, and welcome to the forum! :hi:

Yes, I 29 gallon tank would be a much better choice for a Bristle Nose pleco. :)

I would get a picture of him but he's always hiding and swims away when I get close to the tank.

When you said thin brown lines running across his body it makes me think clown pleco, but without a picture it’s really hard to deter what you have. Not only are there different species of pleco but there are also a wide variety of sub variations.

Could you give us a link, to a picture that looks like him? :)

Looks kind of like this Clown Pleco but he has a thinner head. Also, his fins are similar but not exactly the same.
