That's deffinately a male dwarf. So it can't be full of eggs. How long has it been like this? Did you try fasting and then feeding a shelled pea? If not, do so. Also look out for white, stringy poo and let us know what it looks like. Dwarf gouramies unfortunately are prone to internal bacterial infections so if you fast and then feed peas and the poo is fine so you are sure it isn't parasites, and if you see no improvement after the pea, you should treat with an anti-internal bacteria med. Isolate the fish if you can as the meds can reack havoc on your biological filtration and remember to keep him in as stress-free an environment as possible with top water quality and lots of floating plants and hiding places to make him feel secure. Dimming the lights helps too. If you feed the pea and check the poo and, by process of ellimination, it does turn out to be an internal infection, put him in the isolation tank and then also gradualy lower the temp (over a couple of days - you can't afford to stress him in this sort of situation) to about 76 deg F (assuming it was higher). I'm suggesting this to buy you time as the bacteria will multiply slower at this temp. However, don't lower it any more than that or it might weaken the fish' immune system and also do it very very gradualy as you can't afford to stress him if he is sick. Watch for pineconing of scales. As long as he still isn't lying on the bottom and is still eating, he is still treatable. Oh but don't panic - you don't yet know this is the problem. because you mentioned a child fed the fish, I am more inclined to think constipation from over-feeding is the problem. Good luck anyway.
