Platy Pregnancy

OK, I have the babies in a net breeder right now until my 38 gal finishes cycling. Then the 10 gal will become the fry tank! There are 2. I found 3, but the third escaped. There may have been more, but they probably were eaten when I went out to get the breeder.
Does anyone know if it's OK to put a crushed baby shrimp in their crushed flake food?
Pics tomorow, If I can get any good ones. They are so tiny! How does everyone else here get pics of their fry?

Crushed food of all types will be fine. They just need food small enough to fit into their tiny mouths.
Since you have located 2 of the fry, have a look around edges like where the substrate meets the tank's glass. Fry in a spot like that are almost invisible, which is the idea of course, so you may find a few more with a good search.

OK! I'm looking again, I'll tell you guys if I find anything.
EDIT:
Also, the weird thing was that I found 1 of them underneath a couple pieces of gravel.
ALSO:
Is a half dose of melafix OK for the babies? The gourami injured itself, so I need to put it in, but what do you guys think?

FOUND THE THIRD!
Part of why I find fry is that my gourami is better at finding them than me. He looks at them menacingly, then I scoop them up.

Any Ideas on the melafix? I need to know this morning, because I have to treat my gourami.
Also, would it kill the bacteria in my filter?

my female platy died shortly after it gave birth, and i didnt even know it was pregnant cos the father had died months and months before the female gave birth

That's so sad! Do you still have the fry?
On your sig it says you have 1 platy. Is that the fry? Was there only one? I'm terrified that all three of my fry will mysteriously die.
Do you take pics of your fry? And if so, how?

Not an expert here, but from experience I would say the Melafix is fine, I treated my whole community tank & there were tiny fry in there, which were fine oh & the bacteria in the filter would be fine too.

Congrats on the babies! So exciting to see the little ones in there. I sometimes find the baby mollies bury themselves in the gravel too, so sweet, there may be a few more hiding in there, fingers crossed.

The fry are looking nice today, I was a little worried about one yesterday, because he didn't swim much and looked a little thin and red, but they are all looking good today.
Also, I was looking up ways to speed the cycling in my 38 gal so that I could put the adults in there any have the 10 gal be the fry tank, when I found a product called tetra safestart. What do you guys think?

I am also fairly sure that my mickey mouse platy is going to have her babies soon- and she's the larger of the two!
Pics (click to enlarge)-

Her and my male looking for food

Her and my orange male again

Her. (The male is at the top of the screen)

Her.

It's funny- My male usually isn't obsessed with mating, but today he just won't leave her alone.
EDIT-
Okay, now she is chasing the female who just had her babies.
Will I have more fry soon???
2nd Edit-
Now she's attacking pretty much everyone except the male. She just tries to avoid him, but he won't leave her alone.

She's sort of freaking out now. She is attacking everyone, making swift, short movements, and hardly ever stopping.
For some reason, the male has started attacking one of the females, which he has never done before.

Edit-
WOuld it be bad to stop by the lfs and get her a plastic breeder trap? She's just freaking the other females out, and it's not like I can put her in with the fry.

I have her in a net breeder now. I also tore up one of my old plastic plants and put some of the pieces in with her, so she could have a place to hide. The fry still look healthy.

Do people think it's ok to have her in the net? I just don't want the gourami to eat all her fry.

She's calmed down now and is hiding around the top of the net. :hey:
