Planted Tank Attempt 3

well the response to this thread has been great :)

cheers all

the photo that primous uploaded is absolutely stunning .... wish my tank was like that haha

so basically the jist of what i'm hearing most from this thread is that low light plants are easier to look after as you get more time to sort any problems out .... think i will defiantly go for low light plants

i think that i will follow what tunagirl said last and start off with low light plants and if i get the hang of it then maybe up the lighting when i feel more comfortable with it.

i'm thinking of keeping to my 1 t8 24w bulb to keep it at low light , dousing with ferts every other day (any good / non-expensive varieties that you guys know ??) then instead of dousing co2 getting a small co2 pressurized soda stream canister and just do a small amount of bubbles maybe 1 bubble per second (what you think guys ?)

then change my substrate to that jbl manado substrate 1) because it helps with plant growth 2) because i like the look of the substrate 3) dont like the substrate i have now haha

hopefully this should pave the way to a nice planted tank ??

any thing that i am missing the mark on guys/ gals ??

cheers for all the responses

i would change your substrate first, better to do it with no plants in, it will save you having to take your plants out later on . if you are getting manado make sure you rinse it well first it can be dusty

just bought tetra plant complete substrate and going to cap it all off with some jbl manado ...... lovely substrate for my future plants

also cheers shoulders for the heads up on the manado substrate.

(and then you would need to ensure you're not putting too much fertiliser in the water)
It's difficult to read that in context - but on the whole, don't worry a right lot about putting "too much" ferts in....

IMO
