Hi gang,

i was just wondering how the plant swop is going. as the posts get edited and deleted i cant tell how usefull it has been.

if you wouldn't mind, if you have sent or recieved anything please post your thoughts in here.

for example.

i've passed on 3 big bags of glosso and some dwarf sag.

I haven't had much interest in my stuff, but there aren't too many planted people here in Canada. I can't send across the border into the States, so I'm sure that has limited the number of people interested.

if it helps ive had plants sent to me for free thanks to sam :D

if your reading sam , they are growing well :good:

I put some plants up for swap, but didn't have any takers. No problem, just squeezed them back into my tanks. I'll continue to use the swap if I have extra plants. It's a great idea.

No one has been interested in my plants, so I've moved them into another tank to grow, instead of clogging up my main tank.

I've recieved some plants from Modernhamlet though :D

Yep used it a few times now:

Recieved from users: Java Moss (Ken) , Hornworth (Sam :D) :)

Sent to other users (not necessarily a swop!): Java Moss, Java Furn, Glosso and Cabomba.

I think its a great idea!! Its nice getting plants for free and in return sending some to other people when i have spare.

I`m desperately looking for HC !!!

Chris

I have recieved some Glosso from yourself and Thermuleous is sending me some HM. Neither wanted an SAE or anything I had to offer in return so it was all good for me.

I shall be posting quite a few things in the thread in the next few weeks once I get my tank sorted out. Eyes peeled people. :shifty:

Dudes, no problems always happy to help where I can, and my hornwort grows like mad! So normally have loads spare!

Chris did you not receive the HM? I posted it on Tuesday I think, it should have arrived by now? If it doesnt get to you soon let me know I might be able to get a few more cuttings out of the stuff I have, but it doesn't grow as fast as the hornwort so cant promise anything Im afraid.

As you can see I've sent stuff to several people and I will be more than happy to do it again in the future. I did inquire about one plant but it never arrived and Ive not seen the person on here for a while, never mind though, I have other plants in there now.

I definately think its a great idea, and is in keeping with the spirit of the TFF, its friendly place and the plant swap is a great way of help out people who have taken the time to read your topic and/or post and post their comments back. Lets keep up the good work people :D

The only problem I have had was in plants not arriving, craynerd didn't get the first lot of hornwort I sent him and it doesn't look like ChrisP has got his lot. This is a problem with the royal mail not anything else, I just wonder if Im parceling it up right? Wonder if it bursts during transit and they throw it out. A post in the thread with details of how to do it best might be a good idea.

Along those lines, I always send the plants with a bit of water in the bag, is this necessary? or will the plants be ok for a day or too, out of the water?

Sam

I've posted plants to quite a few people (not on here yet tho  ) and never had any probs. What I tend to do is wrap the plants in damp newspaper, then place in a bag, seal and then padded envelope or whatever is appropriate for the size.

It probably has arrived but I am not currently living at the same house where my tank is, its round my parents house. I shall be going round there tomorrow I shall let you know if it has arrived which I imagine it has. The parents should have left it floating in one of my tanks so it should be fine until then. B)

I would of put the some E angustifolius and tenellus on when i thined it out but alas i had to throw most of it away as it was infested with algue.

I should have some up for grabs soon along with some, java moss, vallis, hygrophilia and some others that i havnt identified yet.

Sam, i did notice that both lots that came from you had leaked in the post, causing RM to put a : Sorry but your parcel has been damaged sticker on them. It woud be better if they had a hard casing on them...but of course it becomes more expensive.

I think maybe i will start sending SAE to people, then its less hastle! Especially for uncommon or expensive plants!

Chris

BTW, Sam is your sole mission in life to supply the entire nation of aquarium hobbiests with hornwort! lol :D
