Plak-tastic! (now a spawn thread)

Apparently there aren't any restrictions for shipping bettas to Canada Wuv, as long as you're shipping less than 8 at a time. There's a thread on Aquabid that you can get to from my Mini spawn diary that has a customs form that apparently helps them get through faster, but isn't required. I'm definitely willing to give it a try, so if mine get through ok we'll know it's fine :)

I'll try to get some more pics of Mini soon... she's still as cute as ever, but I swear, that girl is a blimp!! She needs to go on a diet methinks. Too many white worm treats

Wooooow....that Plakat Father is just GORGEOUS!

I can't wait to see the babies that come from those 2! Keep us udated! :D

just wondering but doesnt breeding siblings cause deformaties in the fry and make them weaker?

Breeding siblings is actually a way to strengthen the genes you want to be carried on, be it to do with colour, finnage, tail type or something else. There is some discrepancy in the number but I've heard/read from various sources that siblings can be bred for up to 4-6 generations without any noticeable consequences for the fry (by then I personally think I'd add in something else desirable from an outside line, but if you're working on a very specific strain it's more likely you'd keep it all in the family)

Thanks for the comments, guys. Unfortunately we're still playing the waiting game over here. At first I was blaming the male for being a jerk, but tonight I realized he's being patient AND persistent (if that makes sense) and it's the female who is not cooperating. She's playing coy :X
So...if nothing by tomorrow I'll most likely pull her since she's being such a noodle. Figures. I have more females than I can count and she was my pick

In the meantime, I dumped my smaragdina fry into a four foot tank and set up a spawn tank for my other choice male seen here. He's my baby  I don't mean to play favorites and I don't as far as care goes, but he's always made my heart flip flop just a bit more than the others. His coloring is fantastic, the only one in the spawn with such a perfect red.

Aaaand I'm going DT to DT :look:

Thank you, Sam. :p

I dunno about the red, he's way more aggro than I thought  But the female is being excellent. I peeked in this morning and found an amazing nest and the female looked at me in such a pathetic way...gah :X Had to look away.

In the meantime, the marble has spawned and I have eggs in the nest!! They did it yesterday, should be hatching any time now. I'm excited.
My little female was back to her old self instantly, not a rip on her.

They did, they did  I just pulled the female, as I've noticed the male has a nice clutch of eggs.

The marble fry have hatched!! He's tending to them nicely. I expect a lot out of these boys, their daddy was the best father in the world so they have big shoes to fill :)

awesome kelly! maybe our eggs will hatch at the same time too, how cool and funny would that be? ig to a ton of eggs out of my female(see my thread for details) :D :p :fun:

You know I'm gonna have to get one of those marbles if they look anything like that Kelly...lmao.

I actually think they will look just like him. It took two days for the eggs to hatch, twice as long as usual. I can only assume there was a wonderful genetic explosion of marvel taking place in there :hyper:

Sam, that's awesome!! GD has some the same age as well. It should be fun for us to raise them all together :hyper:

lol I hope so Kelly...he is a "marvel" himself.
