I am planning a rescape of my 46 gallon bowfront tank. I was wondering if I could comfortably keep a group of 3-4 Pictus catfish in this tank. I have kept a Pictus before, but I kept it by itself, it grew to about 4" before I donated it to my LFS to sell.

I'm glad you want to keep pictus cats in a group. They are shoaling fish and solitude can make this normally energetic species skittish. However, I agree with the comment above. 46 is way too small. They can get to be 5 or 6 inches long and are very active swimmers. I have three living in my 75 gallon community. I would like to get another large tank and dedicate it entirely to pictus cats. I'll move my current trio there with four or so new additions to keep them company.

I would look at a six foot tank, 180 gallons for a school of these fish. They are very mobile. They need room to move. One on its own will be fine in a four foot tank ( 120 gallons ). Remember these are active fish, watch what you put with them.
