Pics Of My New Kribs

Once they start breading they will start killing all the other fish in the tank, including ottos eventualy.

But you wont begrudge them having there own tank, Seeing them look after there baby's is amazing.

ooh cheers for the warning ill move them tomoz..... i dont want to stress them no more and its only fair they have more room :)

Sorry to say DOYOUWANTSOME but males also have spots on fin as well.
The better the colour of the male and spot on fin the better male you have for breeding.

As entioned the male krib can get very very protective when breeding, Ive placed a terracotta pot in the corner of my tank for my kribs & breeding time, when it is that time you will notice the female will disappear completely for several days, the male will hover around by her protecting her and as soon as anything gets too close for his comfort he will chase them away, Ive not yet seen my male hurt any other fish as yet but it seems they have learnt if the cant see the female dint go nr the male. if you are lucky and you do get fry it is amazing to see the female aper with all the little ones under her belly and around her.

The Female krib is often the boss and in her world bigger is better !!! if the kribs haven't paired off themselves and she isn't happy with the male she has been given she will chase him off for a long time, eventually she will succumb to this is the best I'm gonna get time to make do, but for a while she will Chase him off, also sometimes when breeding, if she not in the mood she will let the male know, its funny to see my male chase of many fish bigger than he, and and not be hassled by other fish to then see him swimming scared because of his smaller partner.

kribs can be fun to watch, mine have turned out to be great landscapers, i never knew how much sand a female krib could move in one day and how much she cold hold in her mouth until i saw a big dip in the sand and a miniature mountain appear, at 1st i wondered what the ... is going on here until a tiny little krib head appeared at the the top of the hill had a cheeky peek around then spat out mouthful of sand then darted away only to come back and do the same thing over very 10 seconds

With otos they are very very sensitive to change, you need a well matured tank and even still for t he 1st few weeks of introducing Otto's you can loose some due to their nature. as said a fat Otto is a happy Otto and they do a great job if your having a Little outbreak of brown algae, i got my 3 Otto's as had a little bit of brown algae and within 2 days they had the glass and decor spotless and shining,

i agree with everything you say about the Kribs there.

i had a pair before in a 4ft community tank and they were great fun. they do get agressive when breeding especially the male. mine used to lay eggs on the underside of a terracotta plant pot i had. like Scotty001 said about the sand they dug a large ditch under the plantpot in the gravel by moving the gravel one piece at a time it was great viewing.

i was unlucky and never got any fry off them as after about 3 days the female ate all the eggs and i never found out why.
sadly they died about 2 years ago and were the last fish to go (had the tank for about 4 years without restocking) after that i moved house and gave the tank away for free as my new house was too small.

now i am just at the end of cycling a 48 letre AQ3 aquarium i got for cheap i might buy a pear if kribs t osee if i have any luck with them.

wow!
i was looking forward too these too spawning....but this morning she was dead....
no cuts or wounds so dont know what happned all water is fine....im always very carefull about my water stats!
:(
the Oto's are alive and happy :)
will the Krib accept a new female?

she didnt look it...
but are the females supposed too look wider than the males anyway?

yes, they're supposed to look wider from above, but certainly not bloated.

i know, but sometimes before dying, their belly enlarges. that's how my albino female krib went a long time ago.

assuming she didn't have bloat, either the male beat her to death or she wasn't acclimated properly.

all acclimated, but the tank we got them from has a desease...........
there were no signs yesterday, yet today there "undertreatment"

You introduced new fish to a tank that has a disease :X

Why did you do that?
